Hair Removal

How Long Does IPL Hair Removal Last? Is It Permanent?

Unwanted hair can be removed in a variety of ways, none can claim 100% permanent removal but IPL is one of the most effective treatments available. With IPL, you get permanent hair reduction. IPL and Laser hair removal is clinically proven for the removal of unwanted facial and body hair gently, quickly and effectively with long-lasting results. Most people see between 85-95% reduction with a course of treatments.

How Many IPL Treatments Do I Need?

The number of required treatments will vary between clients depending on skin colour, hair colour, texture and density, diet, stress levels, hormones, medical history and ultimately how you respond to treatments.

You also need to remember that 20-90% of hair is in the active growth phase depending on body site and hair cycle. Only hair in the growth phase can be treated, therefore a number of visits may be required. The lengths of the growth cycles also vary from 6 to 24 weeks.

For the best results, we recommend you complete a full course.

Is IPL Hair Removal Painful?

IPL is less painful than traditional forms of epilation, and certainly less than waxing. The amount of pain experienced varies from person to person, depending on personal pain thresholds, skin types and how sensitive the treatment area is. We take steps to to keep you comfortable during treatment and issue you after care guidance. During the treatment, it feels like an elastic band flicking against your skin with every flash. After the treatment, it is common to feel a little sunburnt. This should subside after a day or two.

Is IPL Hair Removal Safe?

We take the safety of our clients very seriously. We undertake a consultation and perform a patch test to ensure the area is safe to treat. IPL emissions are all non-ionising, so does not affect you like medical x-rays and gamma rays.

Is IPL Hair Removal Suitable For Men and Women?

Certainly! IPL and Laser Hair Removal is suitable for men and women. Treatments are very popular with men particularly on the back, shoulders, chest, back of the neck, upper arms and ears.

What Are The Side Effects And Recovery Time?

There is very little if any recovery time, though you may have some redness following a treatment, this may last between one and eight hours. For 24 hours after your treatment you should avoid heat treatments, saunas and direct sun exposure, and follow our after care guidance.

What Does IPL Feel Like?

When applied at the correct levels, you should feel a prick followed by a warmth. Some people say it feels like an elastic band flicking on the skin.

What Happens During IPL Treatment?

The IPL machine uses an intense pulsed light to penetrate the epidermis of the skin and target the underlying hair. The hair's pigment (melanin) absorbs the light and the hair follicle is destroyed. This also stops it growing in the future, leaving your skin hair-free and smooth.

What If I Am Not Suitable?

At the consultation, we will discuss whether the treatment area is suitable for our treatments. At present, we are unable to offer treatments to the following:

Skin: Fitzpatrick Skintype VI - black/very dark skin. This cannot be treated as there is a very high risk of skin burn. We recommend you find a clinic using a long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser for skin safety.

Hair: red/blond/grey/white hairs do not absorb enough energy to denature the hair structure. We recommend tradition forms of hair removal or electrolysis.
